The List
Autism is often misjudged and misunderstood by those who do not live under the cloud that Autism is. I call it a cloud because it looms over us, and all of our moves are direct results of how the “weather” happens to be that day. Often most people only see the rain. However we all know that without a little rain, there would never be a rainbow.
What is your favorite thing about Autism? I have asked this question in several locations, and would like to share the results with all of you. I received several identical answers, and most of them also addresses my personal favorite things about my own son.
My son has the most amazing memory.
My son may not talk much, but he loves to count.
They don’t let every day things bother them.
I like that my son can play alone.
I like that my son is predictable.
He never lies, cheats or speaks badly of anyone.
They care for people with everything they possibly can.
He loves the simple things in life
His acceptance and kindness of all people.
His appreciation for the simple things in life.
Her total trust.
Her self-reliance & self-contentment.
All are unique have have their own quirks and routines.
My sister can’t lie.
He can work the computer and the TIVO better than most adults.
He is incapable of holding a grudge.
He sees people for what they offer as a person with no social rules to impair his judgment.
He is passionate about things that make him happy.
He never seems to give up.
He doesn’t seem to understand malice.
He ENJOYS the dining experience, as opposed to playing or just the food.
He always tries to see people for WHO they are, not for what they have.
He respects the fact that all people have different abilities and disabilities
and does not “rub it in” when he is better at something than someone else.He has a strong sense of justice and fairness and will speak up when he sees
another person being mistreated. He’s not afraid to forge his own path and not just follow the crowd.
He is honest and sincere.
He will not abandon a problem as “unsolvable.” He perseveres.
He takes his lumps with courage and then “jumps back on the horse” and tries again.
